Blinking Lights, Error Codes and Dead Draws, Sorted by Brand

A vape that blinks, shows a code, or pulls air with no vapor is almost never a dead device. It is usually a low battery, a pod that is not seated, a blocked airflow inlet, or a protection cutoff that clears on its own. This guide collects the troubleshooting that the brands we carry actually publish, so the Geek Bar section says what Geek Bar says about blinking red, the Off Stamp section says what Off Stamp says about pod error type 3, and where a brand has not documented a light pattern, we say so instead of guessing. It covers Geek Bar, Foger, Off Stamp, RAZ, Lost Mary, Flum, Nexa and Dojo. Published September 17, 2026.

Quick Verdict

Do these four things before anything else: charge the device on USB-C for at least 15 to 30 minutes, pull off and re-seat the pod if it is a pod kit, clear the airflow inlet on the base with a dry cotton swab, and take one slow draw. Across every brand in this guide, those four steps resolve the large majority of "not working" reports.

Blinking is a message, not a failure. On Geek Bar, RAZ, Nexa and Off Stamp, a short blink burst after a draw is low battery; a burst of roughly ten blinks is an overpuff or overheat cutoff that clears after you set the device down; a rapid five-blink burst on RAZ and Nexa is a short-circuit or contact error that a contact wipe usually fixes.

Codes are contact faults. Foger's 188 and Off Stamp's Pod Error Type 1, 2 and 3 both mean the battery cannot read the pod. Re-seat, clean the contacts, try a second pod, charge. Neither means the battery is dead.

Start With the 60-Second Checks Every Brand Agrees On

Every brand support page we read for this article opens with the same first move, and it is worth taking seriously even if you are sure your battery is fine. Geek Bar's own not-working guide calls low battery "the single most common reason a Geek Bar stops producing vapor." RAZ calls a dead cell "the single most common cause across every RAZ vape in the lineup" and adds a detail most people miss: a lithium cell at very low charge can sit on the cable for a while before it shows any charging indicator, so RAZ tells you to wait 30 minutes before deciding the device will not charge. Off Stamp's help page says most "dead on arrival" reports are simply a battery drained during shipping and asks for 15 minutes on USB-C. Geek Bar's second site says the same thing under the name "slow-drain charge": the indicator showed charged, but the cell had not held it. Plug in for 30 to 45 minutes uninterrupted, on a wall adapter rather than a laptop port, then try again.

The second check is the airflow path. Almost every device in this guide is draw-activated, which means a pressure sensor has to see air move before the coil fires. If pocket lint is sitting over the intake hole on the base, the sensor reads nothing and the device does nothing, with the battery at 100 percent. RAZ's instructions are specific: find the inlet hole with a flashlight, blow into it gently from a short distance or wipe across it with a dry swab, and do not use water, compressed air at close range, or anything hard pushed into the hole. Nexa adds one more trick for a device that worked yesterday: tap it against your palm three or four times, because condensation can coat the auto-draw sensor.

The third check only applies to brand-new devices, and it explains most "not working brand new" searches. Lost Mary lists three things to confirm before anything else: the silicone plug on the mouthpiece has been pulled (and on the Nera Fullview, the plug on the pod too), the sticker over the airflow inlet on the bottom is off, and the pod is clicked fully home. Geek Bar lists the same trio in different words: shipping discharge, packaging seal blocking the mouthpiece, and the rare manufacturing fault. RAZ adds that the very first puff on a cold coil is weak by design; take a slow first draw, wait five seconds, and the second one is full strength. A fully closed airflow slider can also read as no airflow at all on the sensor, so slide it to the middle before you decide the unit is defective.

The fourth check is the draw itself. These devices are tuned for a slow, steady pull. Geek Bar says to "take a slow, steady draw rather than a hard, fast one." Foger says the same in reverse for a dock that shows charge but will not fire: you may be "drawing too softly for the auto-draw sensor," so take a firmer, slower pull. If your lips do not fully seal around the mouthpiece, ambient air dilutes the puff and it feels like the device is barely working.

Blinking Light Meanings by Brand

The table below only contains patterns that a brand documents on its own instruction or troubleshooting pages. Blink counts differ by device and firmware, and colors vary by model, so treat the count as a guide and the on-device manual as the final word. Where a brand does not publish a code table, the row says so.

Two patterns are worth calling out because they get misread. The first is the charging blink. Geek Bar, RAZ and Nexa all describe a slow pulse or blink while the device is on the cable as normal, so a vape that "keeps blinking" on the charger is usually just charging. The second is the auto-fire cutoff. Nexa calls it "auto-fire protection (puff timeout)" and describes it as a continuous rapid blink after a draw that ran too long. That is a timer, not a fault, and it is the same thing Geek Bar and RAZ describe under the name overpuff protection. A vape that genuinely fires without anyone inhaling is a different matter, covered below.

Geek Bar Blinking Red and Not Hitting, Charged but Not Hitting, and Not Working Brand New

Geek Bar generates more troubleshooting searches than any other brand we stock, and the two brand sites we draw from agree on the diagnosis. A Geek Bar blinking red and not hitting has three possible causes: low battery (by far the most common), end of life, or a short-circuit fault. The screen is the tool that tells you which. If the battery indicator is low, charge for 30 minutes and the blinking stops. If the e-liquid indicator is also empty alongside the blinking red, the device has reached its puff limit; the Pulse 15K cuts off around 15,000 puffs and the Pulse X 25K around 25,000. If the battery reads full and the device still blinks red with no vapor, the fault is at the coil or contact, and that is a replacement, not a fix. "Geek Bar not hitting but charged" is a separate case, and the brand's own guides put the airway first. Air pulls through but there is little or no vapor for one of three reasons: the pod is empty (check the indicator; near empty means the device is done), condensation has blocked the airflow (a wipe of the mouthpiece and base with a clean, dry cloth clears it), or you have been chain-vaping and flooded the coil (pause 30 seconds). Geek Bar also documents a hard reset for the Pulse 15K and Pulse X 25K: hold the mode toggle for three seconds. A device sometimes locks in a fault state that the toggle clears, and the same reset is the prescribed fix for a frozen or dim display. If a "charged" device still does nothing, remember the slow-drain point from the first section. The indicator can show charged while the cell has not actually held it, so 30 to 45 minutes on a wall adapter with a different USB-C cable is the test before you assume a coil failure.

Then there is the "blinker." It is slang for a single continuous draw long enough to trigger the device's overuse protection, which makes the LED blink. Geek Bar puts the threshold at roughly 8 to 10 seconds, notes that the exact number varies by firmware, and says anything past 10 seconds typically triggers the cutoff. The device blinks because the protection circuit shut down the draw, so a Geek Bar flashing after one long pull is behaving as designed. Set it down for 10 to 15 seconds and take shorter draws. Geek Bar's guide also says extended draws overheat the coil and can shorten its life, which is the practical reason to stop doing it.

Pod-kit Geek Bars add one more symptom. On the Clio Platinum 50K the pod carries its own small battery and a magnetic connector; on the Mate 60K the body reads a chip in the pod when you snap it on. A Geek Bar Clio Platinum pod not working, or a Mate pod not working on a body that shows charge, is nearly always a seating or contact issue rather than a dead pod. Pull the pod straight off, wipe the magnetic contacts on both halves, snap it back on and, on the Mate, give the body 30 seconds to register the pod before your first puff; Geek Bar's own review says skipping that pause makes the first draw taste thin. If a second pod works and the first does not, the pod is the faulty part. Replacement Clio 50K pods and Mate 60K pods are sold on their own so you keep the body.

Error Codes: Foger 188 and Off Stamp Pod Error Type 1, 2 and 3

Two devices in our range show an actual code on screen, and both codes mean the same thing: the battery cannot read the pod that is attached to it. One spelling note first, because it changes how you search. Foger is very often written "Fogger," so "fogger 188 error" and "fogger blinking 188" refer to the same Foger Switch Pro 30K code, and this article uses both spellings.

On the Foger Switch Pro 30K, the dock's OLED normally shows battery percentage and a live puff count. When the firmware cannot read the ID chip in the pod's magnetic contact plate, the display falls back to "188," a generic unrecognized-pod code. Foger is explicit that 188 does not mean the dock is broken and rarely means a dead battery, which has its own low-battery icon. Roughly 80 percent of 188 reports are resolved by re-seating or cleaning the pod. Foger's five-step fix, in order: pull the pod straight up and look at the metal contact plate on the pod and the pins in the dock for e-liquid film, lint or oxidation; wipe the pod plate with a dry cotton swab (lightly dampened with 91 percent isopropyl alcohol if it is sticky, then air-dried 30 seconds) and the dock pins with a dry swab only, never liquid in the dock cavity; re-seat the pod straight down until the magnetic click, which happens at about 5 to 8 mm of insertion; try a second pod to isolate dock versus pod; and charge the dock above 20 percent, because a dock below roughly 10 percent sometimes cannot power the read cycle. If a charged dock still shows 188 with a known-good pod, the dock is the failure point. Foger also documents the closest thing to a reset the Switch Pro has: there is no reset button, so remove the pod, let the dock sit unplugged for 30 seconds, plug it into USB-C to wake the board, then re-seat the pod. The Foger Bit 35K disposable does not show 188 at all; its screen only shows battery percentage plus a coin icon in Boost mode, so a Bit that stops is a battery or end-of-life problem, not a code problem. Fresh Switch Pro 30K pods are the fastest way to run the second-pod test.

Off Stamp's X Cube shows a "Pod Error" message with a type number when the battery cannot register the pod. Off Stamp's instruction page is unusually candid about what the numbers mean: you may see Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3, a few users report Type 5 (shown as "Type V" on some screens), some batteries show a plain "Reconnect Pod" prompt instead, and "Type III" is just Type 3 written in Roman numerals. The brand does not publish a code table assigning a separate meaning to each number, and in its own words, "anyone who tells you Type 2 means one specific fault and Type 3 means another is guessing." What the numbers share is the failure itself: power or data is not passing cleanly between the pod contacts and the battery contacts. The same sequence clears all of them on the Classic Cube 25K and the Crystal Cube 35K. Pull the pod straight up and press it back down until it clicks and sits flush, because a pod on at a slight angle reads as no pod at all. Wipe the metal pads on the base of the pod and in the well of the battery with a dry cotton swab; condensed e-liquid on the pads is the single most common cause. Charge the battery for 15 minutes, since a battery too low to fire reports a pod fault rather than a low-battery state. Try a second pod. Then check for physical damage, because a bent or pushed-in contact pin will not recover. If the error clears with a different pod, the original pod is the part to replace and the base stays; X Cube 25K pods are sold separately for exactly this reason. An Off Stamp that is not hitting with no error on screen is a different problem, and Off Stamp says to check the intake holes near the base first, then a saturated wick on a brand-new pod, then battery charge.

How to Turn a Vape Off and On: Foger, Geek Bar Mate, Lost Mary, Off Stamp

"How to turn off a Foger vape" is one of the most searched questions in this whole category, and the honest answer from the brand is that you do not. Every Foger device is draw-activated. There is no power button; the device is powered only while you inhale, and the OLED on the Bit 35K sleeps five seconds after each draw. The side button on the Bit 35K does not turn it on or off. It toggles Eco mode (the default, rated 35,000 puffs) and Boost mode (roughly 25,000 puffs, warmer and denser), and a coin icon on the screen means Boost is active. To stop accidental draws in a pocket, Foger's advice is to put the silicone cap that shipped with the device back over the mouthpiece. "How to turn on a Foger vape" has the same answer in reverse: peel the cap and take a normal draw, and the screen powers on by itself. The Switch Pro 30K Kit works the same way, except the pod snaps magnetically onto the dock and the side button toggles Normal and Boost. The full Foger Bit 35K flavor list is on its product page.

Geek Bar Mate is the same story with less documentation. The Mate 60K is draw-activated, and the single press of its side button that Geek Bar documents toggles Regular mode (60,000 puffs rated) and Pulse mode (30,000 puffs rated); the display updates to show which is active. Neither Geek Bar site we draw from documents a power-off sequence, a click-to-lock, or a sleep timer for the Mate or the Mate kit, so we are not going to invent one. If you want the device inert in a bag, pull the pod off the magnetic contacts; the body cannot fire without a pod seated. If you need a documented lock procedure, contact the seller. On the Clio Platinum 50K, the same applies, with a three-way toggle of Regular, Pulse and Super Pulse instead of two.

Lost Mary says the same thing for most of its range: draw-activated, no power button, nothing to turn off. The device sleeps automatically a few seconds after the last puff and wakes on the next draw. On the button models, the MT35000 and MT15000 Turbo drop out of Turbo on their own after each draw, and the Nera Fullview 70K dims its screen automatically. The one documented full shutdown is on the Nera: holding both side buttons for 10 seconds fully resets it if you want the display dark for travel. Off Stamp is also draw-activated with no button; to "turn off" an Off Stamp, stop drawing and the battery drops into sleep mode within a few seconds. Dojo's iMate X 20K is the exception in this group. It ships in deep sleep and wakes on five quick clicks of the side button; if it does not respond to the five clicks out of the box, Dojo says to plug it into USB-C for 10 minutes and try again, and that this is normal rather than a defect.

How to Use a Pod Kit: Geek Bar Mate 60K, Clio, Nera Fullview, Switch Pro, X Cube, VUE

Pod kits confuse people who are used to sealed disposables because there are two parts, and most "kit not working" reports come down to the join between them. The Geek Bar Mate 60K Kit ships with one 900 mAh body and one pod already seated on the magnetic contacts, so out of the box you pull it from the packaging and draw. Each pod holds 15 mL of e-liquid and its own 200 mAh booster cell, which does not charge separately; it feeds during use and ends its life when the e-liquid does. When the e-liquid bar on the display reads zero, pull the pod off the contacts and snap on a new one; the body keeps its charge and refreshes the display for the new pod. Wait 30 seconds after a swap before the first draw. Charge the body over USB-C; Geek Bar's 30-day test had fast charge bringing it back to 80 percent in 22 minutes, and the body pulsing its low-battery indicator after roughly 300 to 400 puffs of moderate use. The Geek Bar Mate 60K Kit is the entry purchase and the pod is the repeat purchase.

One clarification for a query we see a lot: "Geek Bar Mate super pulse mode." Super Pulse is not a Mate mode. Geek Bar documents the Mate as a two-mode device, Regular and Pulse, with no third boost tier. Super Pulse is the third mode on the Clio Platinum 50K, where it fires the dual mesh coil harder than Pulse and drops the rated count to 20,000 puffs versus 50,000 in Regular and 25,000 in Pulse. If you want three modes, the Clio kit is the device; if you have a Mate and are looking for a Super Pulse setting, it is not there and nothing is wrong with your device.

The Lost Mary Nera Fullview 70K is the kit with the most setup steps, and the steps matter because skipping one produces a dead-looking device. Lost Mary's sequence: check the box (one battery pack and two pods in a full kit), pull the silicone plug from the mouthpiece and peel the sticker off the bottom of the pod, plug the pod's small refill container into the tank until it clicks, snap the pod onto the battery pack (they connect magnetically), then press the mode button to cycle modes while the small side screen shows the current mode and remaining battery. A Nera Fullview that is not lighting up at all almost certainly has an unseated pod, because the battery suspends the screen when it loses pod contact; that reads like a dead battery when it is a seating fault. A Nera battery that "does not work" after a charge is usually a lint-filled USB-C port, and if the LCD shows a charge percentage but the device will not fire, the battery is fine and the fault is in the pod. Replacement Nera 70K pods are the cheapest thing to rule out on a kit that has been in use for months.

The Foger Switch Pro 30K, Off Stamp X Cube and RAZ VUE 50K all work on the same principle. On the Switch Pro, the pod snaps onto a four-pin magnetic gold contact array on top of the dock with a positive click, and the side button toggles Normal (30,000 puffs) and Boost (18,000). On the X Cube, the magnetic connector self-aligns so there is no wrong orientation; press until the magnets click and the pod sits flush with no visible gap, and confirm with the indicator light, because no light on a draw means the pod is not seated. Off Stamp also says the first three to five draws on a fresh pod may taste slightly weak while the wick saturates. On the VUE 50K, the pod carries the battery and a reusable 900 mAh power bank clips on; RAZ's most common VUE "not hitting" cause is a dirty magnetic contact pad, and the fix is to pull the pod, wipe the pad and re-seat. Charging is always into the base or dock on all of these; the pods have no port.

How to Refill a Foger (Fogger) Vape: The Honest Answer

"How to refill a Foger vape" is searched constantly, and Foger's own instructions page answers it in one line: no Foger device refills with bottled e-liquid. There is no fill port on either device. The Bit 35K is a sealed disposable. Its screen shows battery percentage but no e-liquid readout, so you go by taste: when the vapor thins and the flavor fades while the battery still reads fine, the tank is spent and the whole unit is replaced. Foger says the same thing in plainer terms about a Bit that tastes burnt at a low puff count: it is not refillable, so it goes in the trash.

On the Switch Pro 30K, "refill" means a pod swap that takes about ten seconds. Pull the empty pod straight off the magnetic dock, snap on a new prefilled Switch Pro pod in any flavor from the line, and draw. There is no juice to pour, no coil to prime, and no wick to saturate beyond a few first draws. That is the whole design: you keep the dock and buy pods. Every prefilled pod in our Foger vape refill collection is a sealed pod, not a bottle, and the same is true of the Geek Bar Clio and Mate pods, the Off Stamp Cube pods and the Lost Mary Nera pods. Geek Bar's Clio page states the reasoning that applies to all of them: the pod is prefilled and sealed at the factory, you swap pods rather than e-liquid, and opening one voids the coil and risks flooding the mesh. Lost Mary says the same about the MT35000 Turbo's sealed 18 mL tank; opening it voids the seal and risks leaks. If you want a device you fill yourself, that is a refillable pod system with bottled e-liquid, a different product category from everything on this page.

How to Open or Take Apart a Geek Bar Pulse, and Why We Do Not Recommend It

The take-apart searches cluster into three motives, and each one has a better answer than a screwdriver. The first is "to add juice." A Geek Bar Pulse is a sealed disposable with no fill port; there is no reservoir you can top up, and the coil is not designed to be re-wet with bottled liquid. RAZ describes its own devices in words that apply to every sealed disposable here: non-refillable reservoir, non-replaceable coil, non-swappable battery, and zero user-serviceable parts, so "opening it won't fix or refill anything." The second motive is "to fix auto firing." A device that fires without anyone inhaling has a damaged draw sensor, and Nexa's guidance is the clearest in our set: stop using it immediately, place it outdoors, and do not charge it. Taking the shell off does not repair a sensor, and it removes the protection around the cell while the fault is still live. The third motive is curiosity or "without breaking it," and that is where the battery matters.

A plain word on batteries. Every device on this page has a lithium-ion cell inside, and the shell is the only thing keeping it from being punctured, shorted or bent. We do not publish a disassembly walkthrough for any device we sell, and we will not describe how to reach the cell. If a Geek Bar has stopped working, the fixes are the ones above: charge, clear the airway, reset via the mode toggle, and if it still fails within the warranty window, replace it. The one legitimate reason to open a finished disposable, which RAZ's guide covers, is to remove the cell for recycling at a battery drop-off; if that is your goal, follow the drop-off program's instructions rather than a video.

Settings and Modes: Geek Bar Pulse, RAZ Reset and Screen, Flum, Nexa, Dojo

"Geek Bar Pulse settings" turn out to be one toggle and one readout. The Pulse, Pulse X, Pulse 2 25K and Pulse X2 50K share the same control layout: a mode switch between Regular and Pulse, and a display showing battery and e-liquid level. Regular is the default, with steady wattage, the longest run time and the full puff count on the box. Pulse pushes more power for a warmer, denser hit; it feels stronger but draws more battery and e-liquid, so the rated count roughly halves while it is on (15,000 to 7,500 on the Pulse 15K, 25,000 to 15,000 on the Pulse X). A quick press of the mode control cycles between them, and the display or indicator shows which is active. The two indicators on the screen are independent: a full battery can sit next to low juice, and when the e-liquid bar runs down near empty, that is a reorder signal rather than a fault. Geek Bar's practical advice is to leave it in Regular for daily use, save Pulse for a few draws when you want the warmth, and charge before the battery hits critical, because a coil firing on low power tastes weak.

RAZ has more to say about a reset than any other brand, and it matters because RAZ's own data puts a stuck chipset behind 30 to 40 percent of "not hitting" cases on the first try. There is no hard-reset button; a soft reset power-cycles the chipset to clear a frozen screen, a stuck LED or a no-fire state, and it does not reset the puff counter or revive a dead battery. The sequence by model: TN9000 (no mode button) cycles the airflow slider fully closed to fully open five times, then waits 10 seconds; DC25000, RYL Classic 35K and RX 50K take five rapid presses on the mode button, after which the screen relights in about five seconds; VUE 50K is pull the pod off, wait 10 seconds, five presses on the base mode button, snap the pod back on. "Rapid" means under one second apart, because slower presses register as individual mode toggles. RAZ's model-specific quick reference is also useful: a TN9000 usually is not hitting because its sensitive airflow slider is fully closed; a DC25000 or LTX 25K because of a stuck mode toggle; a RYL Classic 35K because the bottom Soft/Boost switch is sitting between positions; an RX 50K because Normal mode with the airflow wide open can feel weak, so close the airflow a step or switch to Boost to verify; a VUE 50K because of a dirty contact pad. A "RAZ vape not working after charging" for 30 minutes on a known-good cable means the cell took the charge and the chipset is stuck, which is the reset's whole job.
